I was born in Waterlooville in 1942 and lived in Bedhampton. After leaving school I was employed as trainee accountant at Portsmouth Aviation an airframe manufacturer on the now defunct Portsmouth Airport. I joined the Metropolitan Police in 1961 and served until 1994 attaining the rank of detective chief superintendent. At the time of my retirement I was Director of Crime Studies at the National Police College at Bramshill, Hampshire.
From 1994 until 2001 I worked for the British Government combating the negative effects of corruption in South Africa, Botswana and finally Sierra Leone, where I was the deputy commissioner of their anti corruption commission.
In 1997 my family moved to Queen Street, Emsworth and we took an active interest in various aspects of community life before I was elected a councillor in 2004.
My interests are in all aspects of the environment, cycling and maintaining Emsworth as the “jewel in the crown” of the Borough of Havant.
Currently I am vice chairman of the Development Management Committee on the council and take a deep interest in all development proposals affecting Emsworth and of course other parts of the Borough.
Whilst planning issues take up a large proportion of my time, I am usually on hand to deal with other concerns raised by residents these cover council services, housing, benefits and highway matters.
I am a governor of Emsworth Primary School; this gives me the opportunity of making a positive contribution to the school life of our young children.
I am also chairman of the Emsworth Business Association [EBA] a group of local independent traders and business people who promote Emsworth as great place to conduct business. I am pleased to be associated with the various projects that the EBA have completed over the years to make Emsworth an even more attractive place for its residents, business people and visitors.
As a councillor I receive an allowance of £4996.07 per annum and a further annual allowance of £380.16 to cover internet /telephone expenses.
